RtI and the Teaching and Learning Framework

On December 8th, the Cohort 1 Response to Intervention group engaged in a day of reflective conversations regarding the Teaching and Learning Framework.  They brainstormed responses to this question:

What are some of the elements of effective practices for teaching and learning?

Their thinking was charted and sorted into the standards that comprise the Teaching and Learning Framework.

Thank you Cohort 1 for connecting your funds of knowledge to the LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework!

Individual Growth Plans: Technology

What might a classroom with a highly effective technology integrating teacher look like?

You may have heard of the concept of Pedagogical Content Knowledge.  This is the knowledge a teacher has of both the content they are teaching and the knowledge of how to teach it.  Click here for a more detailed explanation.  Lee Schulman is credited with the phrase "Pedagogical Content Knowledge".  Schulman's contribution can be visualized as the overlapping of Pedagogical Knowledge and Content Knowledge:

Dr. Matthew J. Koehler, at the College of Education at Michigan State University, is working on a model that also incorporates Technological Knowledge.  All together now:  Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge!  (TPACK)

Individual Growth Plans for Teachers

Hello Teachers!

I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving break!

Please note that for those of you who have already been observed and received your feedback, the months of December and January are excellent times to work your Individual Growth Plans.  Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions regarding your growth plan.  Also, I'm available to work with you at your school site if you need any support with the MyPGS or any other part of the Educator Growth and Development Cycle (EGDC).  Also, there are resources for the your Growth Plan by clicking here.  Those of you interested in integrating technology, take a look here.

For those of you who not yet been observed, no worries!  There is time!  I know many of the observations are happening in December which leaves time to develop a growth plan and receive additional feedback before the 2nd observation cycle (which ends at the end of March).  Please see the "support page" to the right for support or contact me.

Individual Growth Plans: Technology

The Individual Growth Plan is the at the heart of the Growth and Development Cycle.  Growing as educators is the whole point of the process.  In addition to the resources and ideas you can find here, I know there is growing interest in leveraging technology to facilitate student learning, or better yet to transform learning experiences.

Technology can allow for learning opportunities that students wouldn't have otherwise.  When integrating technology into the classroom a good guiding question is:

What might be some uses of technology that can provide opportunities for my students to create new thinking, evaluate, or extend their thinking?

The transformation of learning experiences via technology is the idea behind the SAMR model developed by Dr. Ruben Puentedura.  The model consists of four levels:

Remind of you Blooms Taxonomy?  Or any of the other Taxonomies of Cognitive Demand?

You can learn more about SAMR, check out Dr. Puentedura on iTunes U.
